April Theme: The Art of Light and Form

Light, Shadow, and Drawing in Three Dimensions

In this class, students explore how artists use light and shadow to make drawings look three-dimensional. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, students learn how to recognize and draw light and shadow, and the simple secrets behind making drawings take on the illusion of form.

Throughout the month, students will practice:

  • Creating simple value scales from light to dark

  • A variety of shading techniques

  • Observing how light creates highlights and shadows

  • Using shading to give objects volume and depth

As in all Growing Artists classes, the focus is on building real art skills while keeping the process engaging and supportive. Students work at their own level and receive individualized feedback.

No previous classes are required — new students are always welcome.
